Geoffrey Harcourt

Graduated from the High Wycombe School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London, Geoffrey Harcourt worked first in Latham, Tyler & Jensen in Chicago and works with Jacob Jensen in Copenhagen. In 1961 he opened his own studio in London. He draws many seats for Artifort in the Netherlands, whose chairs F510 (1968) and F590 (1974), and the sofa Cleopatra (1973). There is a huge hit with chairs for airports. Geoffrey Harcourt has worked among others for Japanese publishers.

Awarded the Royal College of Art Silver Medal for work of special distinction in 1960 for a chair which subsequently was manufactured by Artifort and is in the permanent collection of 20th Century designs at the Pompidou Centre, Paris,and the Steidlijk Museum, Amsterdam and currently manufactured by Emmemobili, of Cantu, Italy. Won first prize for creativity in Brussels in 1978

Work exhibited at the Stiedlijk Museum, Prague Museum of Decorative Arts 1972, The Science Museum, London 1972, The Design Council in both London and Glasgow in 1976 and 1981, The 'Eye for Industry Exhibition' in the V & A London 1978, Netherlands Textile Museum 1988, The Manchester Prize exhibition, at the City Art Gallery 1988 and the Royal College of Art Centennial Exhibition in 1996.
