Helidon Xhixha

Sculptor & designer (1970) - Durrës, Abania

He was raised in a family of artists and inherited his respect for the Fine Arts and passion for sculptor from his father Sali.
While waiting to begin his studies at the Academy of Arts in Tirana, he decided to move to Italy where he attended the Brera Academy of Milan.
Thanks to a scholarship he won in 1998, he was able to attend London’s Kingston University and improve his techniques of engraving, sculpting and photography.
Xhixha graduated from Milan’s Brera Academy in February 1999.
He was very quickly becoming renown in the art academic sphere for his unique style. His creations included works in Murano glass and sculptures in stainless steel using innovative and specialized techniques.

Within a small period of a few years, steel became the base of all of Helidon's work and creations. He discovered how to unite the power of light with this material by confining it, transforming it by using “special effects” and eventually setting it free. The hardness and resistance of steel are moulded by folding it, turning it inside out and marking it. His desire is to capture and sculpt light through intervening methods by using the material to make his creations embrace the surrounding environment reflecting colours, shapes, opaqueness and brightness.

Helidon Xhixha’s art represents a turning point in the international art scene where he continues to thrive and hold a prestigious role.
Xhixha is well known for the 5 meter high stainless steel sculpture of the “Prancing Horse” placed in front of the Ferrari factory in Maranello. A monument dedicated to the victory of the Ferrari’s F1 World Cup in 2003.

In 2001 Xhixha has his first trip to Dubai and fell in love with it. Amazed by it’s fast transformation into a metropolitan city enriched by amazing architecture and filled by the many faces of people from across the globe. Inspired by the magical lights that brighten up the night sky of Dubai Xhixha delivered his first monument to the UAE in January 2012.
Standing high at 12 by 4 meter, the steel sculpture hangs brightly in the great hall of the Melia Hotel located in Port Rashid.

2013 - Helidon takes the opportunity of Design Days Dubai Art fair 2013 to showcase his first work regarding design and furniture, on the La Galerie Nationale Booth. “We are very proud to support him in his new design orientation.”
