Philippe Bresson

Art Designer (1953) - Casablanca, Morocco

Philippe BRESSON got his vocation as cabinet-maker at the Freinet school in St-Paul-de-Vence (France), together with a taste for art which he discovered at the Maeght Fondation when he was only 7 years old. In the last 30 years, he has been exploring the fluidity of lines and the smoothness of wood: Grand Bassa mahogany, Macassar ebony, movingui, indian rosewood and Vanona burr inspired him to create pieces of furniture like real sculptures, influenced by Art-Deco master cabinet-makers such as Ruhlmann, Charreau and Printz.

From wood to metal.
Nowadays, his create impulse is fuelled by metal. He gleans pieces of scrap merchants (performed metal sheeting, oil tank, bench etc.) and creates dreamlike creatures from these. He enhances raw metal with contrasting ebony or burr walnut.
Last year, he obtained the EPV (Enterprise du Patrimoine Vivant) Label, awarded by the French ministry of Economy and Finances to craftsmen who combine French manufacturing tradition and innovation (there are only 30 or so in France) A guarantee of quality for whoever wishes to rely on a professional who is recognized for the excellence of his skills. This label puts him on the same level as prestigious brands such as Lalique, Baccarat and Hermès, and gives him access to the most prestigious international exhibition venues.
Philippe BRESSON will showcase for the first time in the middle East during the Design Days Dubai 2013 on the booth of La Galerie Nationale with 4 unique, exclusive and never saw pieces.
